The Self-Love Series: Part I

This February, The Dreslyn explores how women see themselves and how they experience confidence and identity, how they navigate their needs and loves. The first installment features designer Jesse Kamm, Sheena Yaitanes of Kosås Cosmetics, and Mckenzie Raley designer of Land of Women. Each woman in the series, each woman's whose sensibility we greatly admire, gives us their unique perspective on life, success, love, and their aspirations along with a self-portrait. February is the month of love, let's direct it inward. Know thyself. Love thyself. Read below.

Jesse Kamm

Jesse Kamm Confidence is:
The ability to be brave enough to accept yourself and love who that is, never yielding to what others believe.
Identity is:
Tricky... Who we are is ever changing. As you grow, I recommend holding on loosely. Fluidity and flexibility might be the key to having an identity you can support for your whole life.
I am from:
The southern prairies of Illinois.
The thing I love most about myself is:
My ability to know my limits, and to honor those limits each day
The thing I love most in others is:
The ability to be flexible and spontaneous.
I need:
A lot of exercise.
Success means:
Something very different for each of us. For me, freedom is wealth. To be free, is to be successful.
I relax by:
Being steeped and stewed in the natural world. Without it, I begin to wilt.
I can't live without:
Well, I would survive, but I sure do enjoy starting my day with a tasty iced coffee.
A few books that changed my perspective are:
"My Life on the Road" by Gloria Steinem, "Tears We Cannot Stop" by Michael Eric Dyson, "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion, "The Outliers" by Malcom Gladwell.
I'm currently listening to:
An orchestra of tree frogs and crickets singing in the jungle.
I'm currently watching:
The pages turn in the most incredible novel, “Where the Crawdads Sing,” by Delia Owens. I did recently devour “The Durrells in Corfu,” which is just a stunning program... I highly recommend it if the real world is terrifying and dramatic enough, and you need something light and lovely in your life.
I'm excited by:
Catching a juicy, reeling wave. Retiring a little each year. Watching my child grow into a thoughtful and kind individual.
I trust that:
Mother Earth will be just fine, long after we humans extinguish our own light.
I'm impressed by:
My mother and father, and the grace with which they live their lives.
I feel complete when:
I am with my boys.
I aspire to:
Be courageous and brave. To live honestly. To be humble.
I believe in:
Hard Work. Living Minimally. Consuming modestly. Treating others with respect.
I'm working on:
1. Being the best person I can be, each and every day, 2. Putting the final touches on SS19 production, 3. Practicing my Spanish, 4. Prepping for FW19 sales in NYC, 5. Being a solid mom, 6. Being a good boss, partner, wife, daughter, and friend. 6. Working on making it out of the barrel.
